More castles, including Hogwarts!

End of another week in England! We've been staying with family friends Maggie and Martin Booth at Sevenoaks since Monday. They are so nice and welcoming and we have been having a great time with them as well! We've visited some more National Trust locations, including Knole House (with reportedly 365 rooms, although we only saw less than half of that) and Churchill's house Chartwell today, which was very interesting. It's quite cold today (5 degrees at lunch) and is raining, which is a pity. It didn't stop us, but it's nice to be back in the warmth at St. Mary's Vicarage, where the Booths live (Martin is a vicar).  We also went with Martin to the nearby town of Rochester and saw the High St., Cathedral and Norman Castle!

But the big excitement of this week was yesterday, when Doug and I went to the Warner Brothers Studio Harry Potter tour! It was awesome! We saw lots of original sets, props, special effects, costumes and miniatures and walked around for about four hours, with me fangirling all over the place (type 'fangirling' into google images and you get the idea). I particularly loved the Great Hall, Gryffindor  common room and boys' dormitory, Potions classroom, Diagon Alley, Dumbledore's office, Privet drive, Godric's hollow house and the 'big' Hogwarts miniature. We also tried butterbeer and it was delicious! Sort of like a butterscotch soft-drink with melted ice-cream froth... Yum yum! I also rode on a broom over the castle and lake (with a green screen) and Doug and I had fun re-enacting some moments to ourselves. Such fun! We are proud nerds.  :) These are only a collection of a few photos I took - I took 130 on my camera and about 50 more on my phone! Doug has a better camera than me and so I might try to get some more off him...
I am looking forward to maybe going again with Catie and Mike later in the year!

Next week we will be staying with our cousins in St. Albans and then I will be going on a 2-week tour around Europe, going to a few of the main larger countries that I didn't go to last time! Should be good. I hope you all are well back home.

  3. Butterbeer is something they drink in 'Harry Potter'. It's basically a butterscotch soft-drink with froth. Very yummy!
